Best commercial robotic mowers in 2026: an honest comparison

Six autonomous mowers built for grounds crews rather than back gardens, compared on the specifications their makers actually publish — and on the one number most of them do not.

Our bias, stated up front. We build one of the machines on this page, the Amotrol A60i. So read this the way you would read any comparison written by a competitor: check the figures. Every specification below is taken from the manufacturer's own published material as of August 2026 and linked to its source. Where a rival machine is the better buy for a given site, we say so by name, because a guide that concludes "buy ours" in every case is not a guide.

Who this guide is for

This is about machines that replace a crew on multi-acre ground: golf courses, sports complexes, sod farms, solar sites, airfields, municipal parks and the larger contractor routes. Prices in this class run from roughly $25,000 to well over $100,000, or a monthly service contract in the same territory.

It is not about residential or light-commercial robots — the Husqvarna Automower line, Mammotion, Segway Navimow and similar. Those are excellent machines and dramatically cheaper. If your largest single area is under about three acres and you have overnight hours to fill, buy one of those instead and stop reading here. You will save thirty thousand dollars.

The four things that actually separate these machines

Spec sheets in this category lead with cutting width, which is the least interesting number, because almost everyone lands between 50 and 60 inches and the ones that do not are in a different class entirely. What varies enormously:

  • Energy strategy. Battery, gas, or hybrid. This decides your day, and it decides what infrastructure you have to install before the machine can work at all.
  • Duty cycle. Not acres per hour — acres per day. A machine that cuts fast and then charges for two and a half hours may finish behind a slower machine that does not stop.
  • Machine weight. On sod, on wet sports turf, on freshly irrigated fairway, a 1,250-pound machine and a 617-pound machine leave different ground behind them — and those are two real machines in the table below, at identical cutting width.
  • Commercial model. Purchase, lease, or robots-as-a-service with a per-acre fee. This changes the total five-year cost far more than any spec on the sheet.

Machine by machine

Husqvarna CEORA 546 EPOS — the unattended-perfection machine

The CEORA is the most misunderstood machine on this list, because people see the Husqvarna badge and the RTK navigation and assume it competes with the wide-deck machines. It does not. Its cutting width is 68 cm and it weighs 74 kg — it is a large robot, not a small tractor.

What it does, it does better than anything else here: it lives on the property permanently, cuts a little every day inside virtual boundaries at roughly 2 cm accuracy, and produces the kind of finish that comes from mowing the same turf constantly rather than weekly. Working area capacity is 50,000 m²; it manages about 1,800 m² per hour, with a 150-minute charge after every 250 minutes of mowing. Slope limit is 20% inside the installation and 15% at the boundary. It runs at 72 dB(A), which is quiet enough to work beside occupied buildings.

On cost, expect a complete installation to land in the same territory as a wide-deck machine rather than below it: Buxtons in the UK lists the drive unit alone at £19,599 inc VAT, with the RZ 43M deck and CS4 charging station on top, and an Irish dealer lists a package at €35,465. The CEORA is not the budget option in this comparison — it is a differently-shaped machine at similar money.

Buy it for: a fixed, high-visibility area up to about five hectares where the goal is a permanently immaculate surface and the machine can simply live there. Sports club grounds, hotel lawns, corporate campuses.

Do not buy it for: getting a large acreage cut inside a window. The charge cycle and the deck width both work against you, and steep ground is out at 20%.

RC Mowers / AMT A-60 — the closest thing to a direct rival

This is the machine most similar to ours in intent, and if you are shopping seriously you should get a demo of both. Same 60-inch commercial deck, same "replace the crew on big open ground" thesis. It runs a Kawasaki FX730V petrol engine at 23.5 HP with a 5-gallon tank, cuts at 1.5–2.5 acres per hour, tops out at 8 mph forward, and navigates with GPS, RTK and LiDAR. Remote stop works beyond 1,000 feet. Warranty is two years, unlimited hours.

Two things to weigh, and the first is the starkest number on this page. The A-60 weighs 1,250 lb. The A60i weighs 617 lb (280 kg). That is not a trim difference — the A-60 is almost exactly twice the machine by mass, at the same 60-inch cutting width. On firm, established ground that costs you nothing. On newly laid sod, on wet sports turf, on a fairway the morning after irrigation, twice the mass over the same contact area is the difference between a machine that leaves the surface as it found it and one that does not. It is also a materially different trailer and tow vehicle.

The second is the powertrain. The A-60's engine drives the machine directly. In a hybrid the engine never turns a wheel — it runs at its efficient point purely to generate, and electric motors do the driving. That is where the fuel figure comes from: the A60i burns 3–4 L/h. RC Mowers does not publish a consumption figure for the A-60, so we cannot put the two side by side honestly, and we are not going to estimate theirs to make ours look better. Ask them for it; it is a fair question and one you should ask us too.

Buy it for: large, firm, open ground where raw hourly rate is the priority, and where a dealer network you can drive to matters more than anything on a spec sheet.

Note on the name: its "A-60" and our "A60i" are unrelated products from different companies. We get asked; the similarity is a coincidence, and it is worth knowing which one you are reading about.

FireFly Automatix AMP-L100 — the biggest output on this page

A different weight class: a 100-inch reel mower with a 35 kWh LiFePO4 pack, six acres an hour, and 20–25 acres on a charge. With a mid-day fast charge it will do 40–50 acres in a day. For high-volume fine turf — sod production, large fairway programmes — nothing else here approaches it, and the battery is rated for 5,000 cycles to 80% capacity.

The catch is in the charging line of the table, and it is a big one. The 2.5-hour fast charge needs 14 kW at 240 V 50 A three-phase, or 460 V 30 A three-phase. On the standard charger you are looking at roughly eleven hours. If you have that supply where the machine parks, this is a superb tool. If your site is a solar farm, an airfield perimeter or a remote sod block, you are quoting an electrician before you quote a mower.

Buy it for: high-acreage fine turf with three-phase power at the shop.

Scythe M.52 — the one you cannot buy

A 52-inch all-electric deck with camera-led autonomy, eight-plus hours on a charge and 1.5–2 acres per hour. Technically impressive and genuinely different in how it perceives a site.

What sets it apart commercially is that it is sold as robots-as-a-service: there is no purchase price, only a contract built around a base fee plus autonomous acres. Whether that is an advantage depends entirely on your accounting. It removes capital risk and obsolescence risk, and it converts a machine into an operating line item you can stop paying. It also means you never own an asset, the per-acre cost never ends, and your mowing capacity is contingent on a vendor relationship.

Buy it for: contractors who would rather expense mowing than capitalise it, and who want to scale capacity up and down by season.

FJD RM21 — the value option, if you can get the figures

RTK to ±2 cm with LiDAR, electric drive, aimed squarely at sports fields, sod farms and orchards, and generally the cheapest RTK machine in the commercial conversation. We could not verify cutting width, weight or rated acreage from published material, and roughly five hours of runtime is what reviewers report rather than a manufacturer figure. Ask for a datasheet in writing before you commit.

Amotrol A60i — ours

A 60-inch three-blade deck on four-wheel electric drive, navigating by RTK GNSS with dual-antenna heading at roughly one inch. The body is automotive-grade aluminium, which is where the weight advantage over comparable machines comes from. The range extender is electronically fuel injected and holds a fixed efficient operating point rather than chasing the cutting load. The powertrain is a hybrid: a battery pack driving the wheels, and a small range-extender engine whose only job is to put charge back while the machine cuts. One tank is twelve hours.

It cuts 7,000 m² an hour, which is about 1.73 acres — squarely inside the range the A-60 and the M.52 quote, and well short of the AMP-L100, which is in another league on raw output and makes no secret of it. Hourly rate is not where this machine wins.

On one 36-litre tank it will do roughly 15 to 21 acres — 9 to 12 hours, depending on load — without stopping. That is in the same territory as the AMP-L100's 20–25 acres per charge, with one difference that matters on remote ground: getting the AMP back to work takes 2.5 hours on a three-phase supply, and getting the A60i back to work takes as long as it takes to pour 36 litres of petrol.

Where it does win outright is the two columns most spec sheets skip. It weighs 280 kg (617 lb), which is roughly half of the closest directly comparable machine on this page, and it burns 3–4 litres an hour — about 1.7 to 2.3 litres per acre cut. Set that against contracted commercial mowing, commonly quoted around $40 an acre, and the fuel line of the comparison is under two dollars. The rest of the gap is maintenance, depreciation and the person who is no longer driving.

Two more numbers worth putting beside the others, because they are hard to get out of anyone else in this class. Slope rating is 30 degrees — a 57.7% grade, and note the unit, because "30%" would be 16.7 degrees and a different machine entirely. Electric drive at all four wheels is what raises that ceiling: with no engine in the drive path there is no oil sump to starve when the machine tilts, so grip and centre of mass set the limit instead of lubrication. And lead time is two weeks ex-works, with a two-year warranty — in a category where a quarter or more is normal, availability is a specification too.

Do not buy it for: small properties, obstacle-dense ground, sites needing a reel cut for fine turf, or anywhere with a zero-emission-at-point-of-use policy. The number no manufacturer publishes

Go back to the last column. Of the six manufacturers, exactly one puts a price on its own product.

You can sometimes get to a figure through a dealer. Husqvarna's UK dealer Buxtons lists the CEORA 546 EPOS at £19,599 including VAT — but read the fine print, because that is the drive unit and the cutting deck and charging station are separate line items. An Irish dealer lists a package at €35,465. Those numbers took real digging, they are VAT-inclusive European retail rather than ex-works, and they are not the same configuration as each other. That is the state of price discovery in this category.

There are respectable reasons for it — configuration varies, dealers set territory pricing, freight and duty differ. But it has a cost to you as a buyer: you cannot build a budget, compare capital cost against your current contracted mowing spend, or get a number in front of a board without first entering a sales process at every vendor.

We publish $39,800 USD ex-works for that reason. It is not a discount signal and it is not the cheapest number in the category. It is simply the figure, so you can do the arithmetic before you talk to anyone — including the arithmetic that concludes you should buy something else.

How to choose, in four questions

  • Is your largest area under three acres? Buy a light-commercial RTK robot. None of the machines on this page are worth their premium to you.
  • Do you have three-phase power where the machine parks, and high-acreage fine turf? The AMP-L100 will out-produce everything else here.
  • Is the site fixed, under five hectares, and judged on finish rather than throughput? CEORA, and let it live there.
  • Is it multi-acre ground with no charging infrastructure, and a window to finish in? That is the A60i and the A-60. Demo both; the deciding factors will be machine weight on your turf, and whether you want a local dealer or a direct factory relationship.

The short version. Deck width barely varies in this class and tells you almost nothing. What separates these machines is what has to be true about your site before they can work — a three-phase supply, a charging dock, firm ground, a dealer within driving distance — and whether you want to own a machine or rent a capability. Work out your constraint first, then the table above answers itself.
